First stop on my test drive to Utah: Robert Bruno's Steel House on the outskirts of Lubbock, Texas

Constructed entirely of beautifully wrought curved steel and sitting on an amazing geological feature just southeast of Lubbock, the house is unfortunately empty following Mr. Bruno's death last December.

Less than half a block away sits Robert Bruno's home, used while work progressed on the Steel House, also poignantly vacated. I worry what will become of these two delightful buildings now that the man who maintined the vision is gone.

While I came to this god-forsaken spot in the Panhandle to see Robert's Steel House, I was really enamored with the extensive mosaic work I could see on the exterior of his home and in his yard. The front entryway reminded me of Mary Quant meets J. R. R. Tolkien.

Post rain storm sunset on the streets of Slaton, Texas on the edge of the north Texas plains. Man you can see a long way out there.

At dusk, I stumbled upon a storage yard for components of those enormous wind turbines you see so much out in those there parts. There was row after row of turbine blades and pedestals that seemed to go on forever.

It was like a secret magical place where the turbine blades came to beach themselves and were scatter about in great pods.
